Have you received a request from us to complete a reference check on behalf of a candidate? Here are answers to some frequently asked questions you may have.

I clicked on the reference link and received an error message!
Please delete your cache and cookies, reboot, and then try copying and pasting the entire link directly into your browser bar. If you still cannot access the survey, please forward your reference invitation email to support@outmatch.com. Please make sure to include your name, the name of the candidate, and a brief description of the issue. We will be happy to resend your link!
I can’t click on the reference survey link!
Some email domains and/or mailbox settings prevent links from landing as clickable hyperlinks. If the email you received does not show a clickable link, please copy and paste the entire link directly into your browser bar.
I’m trying to complete a reference but I’m being asked to enter a user name and password!
You should land on a Welcome page when you click on the link contained in the reference invitation. References are never required to login in order to complete a reference survey. If you landed on the Login page, please double check to make sure you are clicking on the correct link in the email. The link will look similar to the one below:

My company’s policy only allows me to provide basic verification information such as dates of employment!
We completely understand if you’re unable to complete the reference survey due to company policy. Please reach out directly to the candidate to let him/her know that you’re unable to complete the reference request. The candidate will then have the opportunity to make alternate arrangements so that their application can move forward.
NOTE: Please do not send completed Employment Verification forms to us. We (OutMatch/Chequed) are an independent assessment company and cannot accept reference information provided outside of the Chequed Reference system.
If you do not have the candidate’s email address, simply contact us at support@outmatch.com and we will be happy to provide that information to you. Please make sure to include the candidate’s name, along with your name and email address.
I can’t/don’t want to complete the reference!
If you’re unable to complete the survey for any reason, please reach out to the candidate directly to request your removal. We are unable to administratively remove references from candidates’ profiles. This will also afford the candidate the opportunity to add an additional reference. If you do not have the candidate’s contact information, simply send us your name, email address, and the candidate’s name, and we will provide you with the candidate’s email address.
I am not qualified to complete the reference!
If you do not feel qualified to answer the survey questions, please reach out directly to the candidate to request your removal. We are unable to administratively remove references from candidates’ profiles. This will also afford the candidate the opportunity to add an additional reference. If you do not have the candidate’s contact information, simply send us your name, email address, and the candidate’s name, and we will provide you with the candidate’s email address.
I do not have a LinkedIn profile, or do not want to add my LinkedIn profile URL. What should I do?
This field is optional. Please leave the LinkedIn profile field blank if you do not wish to include a profile URL.
I don’t know this person! What should I do?
If you do not know the candidate who is requesting the reference, please forward the email you received to support@outmatch.com. Make sure to include a brief description of the issue, along with your name and email address. We will then ask the candidate to remove you as a reference.
Note: You may receive up to three reminder emails, depending on when the candidate removes you as a reference. Please disregard these reminders.
This is my email address, but I’m not the reference!
Reference invitations are sent by email, and the job candidate may have accidentally entered your email address instead of the one intended. If you received a reference invitation intended for someone else, please forward the email to support@outmatch.com. Make sure to include your name and email address, along with a message to let us know your email address was incorrectly used. We will then ask the candidate to make the necessary correction.
Note: You may receive up to three reminder emails, depending on when the candidate makes the email correction. Please disregard these reminders.
I don’t want to agree to the Terms of Use. Can I still complete a reference?
I’m sorry, but you must agree to the Terms of Use to complete the reference survey. If you are unable or unwilling to accept the Terms of Use, please reach out to the candidate directly to discuss possible alternatives.
Can I provide the phone numbers for my references instead of their email addresses?
Unfortunately we can only accept a reference’s email addresses to complete the reference check process. If this information is unavailable, please make alternate arrangements with the hiring manager of the company to which you’re applying. We do not have this contact information.
If I edit the reference verification information given by the candidate, will it reflect poorly on them?
Not at all! We want records to be as accurate as possible, so we absolutely encourage references to verify their information and make edits accordingly. The system does not track edits so there is no way to tell if any changes were made by the reference or by the candidate.
Will the candidate see the results of the questionnaire?
No. Your answers are viewable only to the hiring manager. The candidate can see the status of your survey (e.g. Started, Completed), but has absolutely no ability to view your responses.
Will my answers be saved if I have not completed the survey?
Your survey answers will be saved up to the last completed page. If you leave the survey before completing the page you are working on and submitting your responses, your answers to all previous pages will be saved, but your responses on the current page will not be saved.
Why can’t I leave any of the survey questions blank or answer N/A on the multiple-choice part?
The questionnaire is purposely designed to ensure that every question is answered so that we can gather as much data about the candidate as possible. Rest assured that responses are considered in aggregate and that no single response determines the final result. We encourage you to answer all questions honestly and to the best of your ability.
Can I edit my survey answers after I have submitted them?
You will not be able to change your answers once you have submitted them.
If I indicate that it is OK to contact me, will I definitely be contacted?
You will only be contacted if the hiring manager has follow up questions for you.
